35 years in the building. Now alongside the leader
Carl O. Patton, Ed.D. has spent 35 years leading Catholic and independent schools — as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal,. He knows the weight of the role from the inside: the personnel decisions no one can help you make, the budget conversations you carry home in silence, the performance of steadiness when you are not steady.
That experience is the foundation of Patton Education Partners LLC.
The coaching practice is also grounded in formal research. Carl holds a Post-Graduate Certificate in Educational Neuroscience from Butler University — the science of what sustained isolation and chronic stress actually do to a leader's decision-making capacity and resilience over time. He is completing an executive coaching certificate through Emory University's Goizueta Business School, accredited by the International Coaching Federation at the Level 2 standard.
He presents nationally at NCEA and NASSP on the neuroscience of leadership and principal formation. His work on structural isolation as a driver of principal attrition is forthcoming in Education Week.
The coaching approach is grounded in accompaniment — the practice of walking alongside rather than directing from above. The goal is not a leader who performs well under supervision. It is a leader who leads well when no one is watching.
